Wear a face covering

Everyone over the age of two is required to wear a face covering at all times, except while eating in designated dining areas. Face coverings are required even if you have been vaccinated. They must be made of two or more layers of tightly woven material, must fit snugly against the sides of your face, entire nose, mouth and chin. Masks with valves, vents, mesh or holes are not permitted. Also, bandannas and other loose-fitting-style masks cannot be used as face coverings. We value the wellbeing of our guests and staff. If you remove your face covering, you will be asked to leave.

Mission Control

To help provide the safest possible experience for guests, the California Science Center has made some key changes to our exhibits, facility, and procedures.

Exhibit Galleries and IMAX Theater

Many Science Center exhibits have been adapted for hands-free interaction, allowing our guests to safely and comfortably have fun learning about science. You can see live animals in many of our Ecosystems exhibits, explore air and space artifacts like the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space capsules and space shuttle Endeavour, and enjoy photography displays like Mission 26: The Big Endeavour. Timed tickets are also available for purchase for our popular special exhibition, The Art of the Brick, as well as for some spectacular IMAX films. Although some exhibitions are closed due to COVID restrictions, more are opening all the time. There’s still so much to see at the California Science Center!

The California Science Center’s cleaning protocols have been enhanced and uphold the highest standards of cleanliness.

Our climate control systems have been adjusted to bring in the maximum possible amount of outdoor air and use hospital-grade filtration.

Contact-free bottle-filling stations are available, but water fountains have been closed.

Hand-washing and sanitizing stations have been added throughout the Science Center. We encourage everyone to frequently and thoroughly wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds.

Onsite Purchases

Contact-free payment options are available for all transactions inside the Science Center, and for parking. If you do not wish to utilize contact-free payment for parking, please bring exactly $12 in cash.

A limited menu of food is available to purchase. You’ll find boxed lunches as well as grab-and-go food options and plenty of outdoor seating. Tables have been rearranged and spaced to promote physical distancing.

When you visit the ExploraStore, you’ll find wider aisles, clearly marked prices, and reduced guest capacity to promote physical distancing.

Staff Safety Measures

California Science Center staff will remain at least six feet from guests, and when this is not possible, will be positioned behind Plexiglas. Face coverings are worn by Science Center staff at all times. All staff are screened for temperature and symptoms before beginning a shift.
